The Aboriginal Youth Justice Programs Team are developing an Elders and Respected Persons Mentoring Program for delivery at Parkville and Malmsbury. The program is considering flexible delivery of mentor sessions through a pool of Elders and Respected Persons. Next steps include bringing together an Advisory Group to review the research thus far and collaborate on service delivery options.
Uncle Ron Murray continues to attend the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct once per week as a mentor for Aboriginal young people. Uncle Ron delivers cultural teaching, history, mentoring, teaching/ playing didgeridoo and storytelling. Through his consistent visits, Uncle Ron builds strong rapport with Aboriginal young people who have responded well to his approach and enjoy his visits.
