Where we are up to

Djirra in partnership with the Centre for Innovative Justice and PWC Indigenous Consulting (PIC) have been engaged to undertake the feasibility study which will develop the preferred residential model/s.

As the project involves detailed consultations across the state with Aboriginal women in prison and under justice supervision in the community and broader community members, it is on hold until October 2020 due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 restrictions. This project is now due for completion by June 2021.

The Aboriginal Justice Caucus and broader community has long expressed the need for a women's residential facility for Aboriginal women in contact with the system to divert further contact with the justice system. Through AJA4, funding has been made available to undertake a feasiblity study which will identify the preferred residential model.
