Where we are up to

The Connecting to Country Project at Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre is in development and will be modelled on the Connecting to Country program at Loddon Prison Precinct.

The development of the program will involve working closely with Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation, Bendigo District Aboriginal Co-op (BDAC), Traditional Owner groups and other relevant stakeholders.

This approach ensures community buy-in and culturally appropriate solutions are applied as part of the development of the Malmsbury Connecting to Country project.

This initiative has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with no progress to report. Although, in addition to the Connecting to Country Project, Aboriginal Youth Justice has several actions under Wirkara Kulpa Goal 1.2, which link and strengthen connecting Aboriginal young people to country and Traditional Owners. Aboriginal Youth Justice will continue to work on rolling this out within the staged implementation of actions within Wirkara Kulpa.
