Where we are up to
The Children’s Court of Victoria has unveiled a new portrait of Aboriginal elder, Uncle Kevin Coombs in honour of his contribution to the Koori courts. Uncle Kevin Coombs has played an important role since the establishment of the Koori Courts in 2003. By the time he retired in 2019, Uncle Kevin Coombs had served as an Elder with the Koori Courts for 17 years. His portrait will hang outside the Elders’ Room at the Melbourne Children’s Court, as a lasting reminder of his notable contribution to Victoria’s justice system.
June 2019: Court Services Victoria are in consultation with the Aboriginal community to apply Aboriginal names to meeting rooms in the William Cooper Justice Centre and Queen Street premises.
Further, a comprehensive cultural awareness program is being implemented across Court Services Victoria.
